Freestyle Draft

I sing to thee,
though thou does flee:
from me, beneath the apple tree,
To the far East, up to sky's great heights,
In candlelit rooms, in solemn,
Sabbath nights
I sing to thee, and though Earth is great,
you flee from me, to God's good grace.
I sit awhile, I pace, I pace,
but you come not, and so I chase,
through Egypt we go,
through Babylonian fires
and dreaded funeral pyres
through night all aglow
and although my body lusts for you,
my mind expands as I pursue a Jew.
and as it does, the distance between us shrinks.
shown a new angle
Kinks of knowledge untangle,
and so I find reason in your flee,
loving you connects me with (world's) history.

An Attempt at Triplets

We do love each other, we truly do
And yet of our True Love, anger does brew:
For I an Atheist and you a Jew.
If pray you must, then to our mutual muse
Religious chaste, I'll be damned if you lose
All lies open, of Us no need to choose.
If worship you crave, I let you loose
Think me a false idol you dare seduce?
Nay, the idol is you, this trist a truce.
For I am free to bend where you must stand
Down the isle we go, met hand in hand.

Why I Love You: A Proposal

It's not your eyes, It's not your face either

or how you look or words drawn from your lips

that make me, of your soul, long to take sips

deep. That's not why, of you, I'm a believ'r.

Perhaps Homer could describe this passion

clearly: As swans in love ... So strong does our

bond persist. Provoke the muse for further

senses, words can't form the everlasting.

Enclosed in these tight, tight quatrains reside

You and i, indescribable, zenith

symbols of true affection. Told in kiss,

hidden in rhyme, but to capture – denied.

Love is not described but experienced,

folly to analyze, i am convinced.

The Mirror

Suck down that nicotine you swinish pig

I hope it kills you before the butcher

Can sever your blackened throat. Deter

The hate of yourself with another cig

And pollute the air with senséless speak

While your chapped gums excrete your one virtue.

Take another tote and douse your taboo,

Your second heart now lost in sands of weak.

A squalid climb, rising ever higher

Up to your apartment. You shed dank dress

And dreary garment, release smoky mess

And a sigh like an untunéd lyre.

Slip into the shower, regain esteem.

Wash that ash off your breasts slim Virginia,

Clear the treason, transform to the pin-up

We (all) desire. The pure, cleansing steam

Covers supple body in benign shroud.

Beauty left, inhibitions plucked gently

from your lips 'til three words I utter thee.

Beckoned, you emerge clad in heaven's cloud.

Your true self reflected in the mirror–

until decay, the image I desire.
